I had not been getting enough sleep a few days ago. This had significantly affected my productivity. When I wake up after sleeping for four or five hours, I usually become sleepy when working for a long time. I can’t fully concentrate on my work and it really bothers me.
Many specialists say that people should get sleep for at least eight hours per day. Some say it can be divided into two parts, 5 hours in the night and 2 hours in the afternoon or 8 hours in a single night. That choice depends on a person’s activity. If he/she requires small amount of sleep in the night, he/she can take a nap in the afternoon. Or if he/she works full time in the afternoon, he/she can sleep for 8 hours in the night.
Sleep is one of the most basic human needs in this life. When body and mind don’t get what they deserve (sleep), they will not work as good as when they’re fit. Programmers usually like to work in the night because it’s quite and peaceful. In this case they get small amount of sleep in the night, so they will need to get sleep again in the morning/afternoon.
Lack of sleep not only affects our productivity, but also our mood and attitude. We might be a grumpy person, we might yawn all the time while working, we might forget whatever we want to type. Those can happen if we don’t get enough sleep.
So, don’t underestimate sleep. It’s as important as oxygen. If we don’t get enough of it, we can’t live well and productively. Do you get enough sleep?
